Meat Loaf Collapses on Stage During Canadian Concert

Meat Loaf collapsed on stage Thursday while performing in Edmonton, Alberta, according to multiple Canadian media reports.

He was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, according to The Canadian Press.

Police in Edmonton confirmed that they responded to a medical call at Northern Jubilee Auditorium, and that the Alberta Health Service took over since the call was medical in nature, according to Canadian broadcaster CBC.

An AHS spokesman confirmed to ABC News, “AHS EMS transported a patient from Jubilee Auditorium to an Edmonton Hospital earlier tonight.”

The CBC cited a concert-goer who said that the 68-year-old singer was performing “I Would Do Anything For Love” from the 1993 album as an encore when he suddenly collapsed. In various videos posted to social media by concert-goers, Meat Loaf is seen dropping his microphone and falling to the floor. Other musicians went to his side, and the music stopped.

After Meat Loaf collapsed and was attended to, a black curtain was drawn between the crowd and the audience.

The auditorium was evacuated, as fire trucks and ambulances arrived.

Publicists for Meat Loaf did not immediately respond to ABC News’ request for comment.

Meat Loaf — whose birth name is Marvin Lee Aday — also cancelled two shows within the past week, citing ill health: One in Regina, Saskatchewan on Saturday, and another in Calgary, Alberta, on Tuesday.

According to The Associated Press, the singer has said he suffers from asthma and from a medical condition that causes an irregular heartbeat.
